Orphanage Volunteer Work
DAVS works with orphanages
and children Homes throughout the regions that we operate namely Volta Region,Greater Accra Region and Western Region. The
children come from a variety of situations including loss of one or both parents, physical and sexual abuse, extreme poverty,
and more suffering than many of us can imagine. Many of these children have been denied the chance at an education as well
as the basics for survival-food and shelter. By volunteering at one of our orphanages, you will have the chance
to offer them support, affection, and the benefits of a basic education.Volunteers at this placement lead activities with
the children including games, informal education, arts and crafts, reading activities, music and more. Many volunteers also
get involved in repairs, painting, etc. The facilities are in constant need of upkeep.
Many volunteers begin by teaching English to the kids. Then, as volunteers become more comfortable, they can
share their interests and experience in a particular discipline, like art, music, dance, sports, etc. With the help of the
staff, volunteers can also arrange daytrips for the kids.Volunteers can either live at the orphanage or stay with a local
host family and commute everyday. The schedule is generally Monday-Friday. However, most volunteers end up staying with the
children much more than this. You'll share some meals with the children, especially if you live at the orphanage.
