Medical and Dental Volunteering
DAVS health volunteer placements are open to medical professionals including doctors, dentists, nurses, medical and laboratory
technologists. They are also open to students in all medical fields. A professional license, relevant student ID or college
letter confirming your program and level of study is required at the start of your medical volunteer placement abroad. All
prospective medical volunteers also need to submit a resume showing their area
and level of expertise and what they hope to achieve from the medical volunteer placement in Africa.
There are a number of medical and dental clinics in Ghana especially Volta Region where you can provide voluntary
services. You will find Ghana
dental and medical volunteer abroad opportunity enlightening and rewarding. Interns work under the supervision of local staff and the persons in charge of placement facility.
They are hosted close to the projects under which they work. A certificate of participation is issued at the end of the internship
abroad period. Medical and health care volunteers,overseas interns will be expected to work for between 3 to 8 hours a day.

You should be in reasonably good health due to the extreme heat and conditions of
transportation and facilities in Ghana.Ability
to plan and be self-motivated is important, as you often won’t have direct supervision.

Role of Volunteers
As a medical volunteer (medical students, nursing students or intern), you will work with local staff in support of the
health care efforts. You can also work as a dental or medical assistant volunteer at one of the local hospitals or clinics.
You will assist the doctor/dentists or clinician in the normal routine of medical work e.g. taking vital signs, dressing wounds,
taking patients history, counseling patients, providing assurance and moral support to patients' family, disbursing minor
drugs etc.
